Diabetes is a chronic and incurable disease that occurs when the body does not produce enough or any insulin. This leads to an excess of sugar in the blood, and thus the body’s cells are not able to function properly, because insulin is a hormone that is usually naturally produced by the body which helps to regulate the blood sugar levels in the body. It is believed that reversing diabetes is not only possible, but that it is likely, so long as you are willing to put forth the effort.
Reversing Diabetes
When it comes to reversing diabetes, the first thing you need to do is determine the actual type of diabetes that you have. There is type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common, presently affecting over 15 million Americans alone. There are certain signs and symptoms that are generally associated with type 2 diabetes, including: recurring skin or bladder infections, cuts and bruises that are slow to heal, itchy skin, frequent vaginal yeast infections, fatigue, increased thirst and an increased need to urinate.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s own immune system attacks the beta cells in areas of the pancreas, destroying them or at least damaging them enough that insulin production is interfered with.
In order to begin reversing diabetes, there are a few steps in particular that you are going to have to take. The first is to dramatically change your lifestyle in general. This means changing your diet to include a decent amount of fresh fruit and vegetables, and making sure that you drink a proper amount of fluid, especially water, each day, so at least six to eight glasses, if you can.
Physical activity is also incredibly important, and so you want to try to ensure a good thirty minutes of exercise a day if you can, as this will greatly assist in your attempt at reversing diabetes. Reversing it means making seriously tough choices in life, and giving up certain foods is going to be one of the most impacting and yet most difficult things of all that you do.
This means foods that contain ingredients such as refined white sugar, sucrose, corn syrup, dextrose, white flour, and enriched flours. As well you need to cut all the sweets out of your diet, such as ice cream, cookies, cakes, candy bars and so on. This is the only way to really attempt at regulating your blood sugar levels and thus reversing the disease. By doing this you will also notice yourself losing weight, as by taking these fatty and unhealthy foods out of your diet you will be cutting down on calories significantly.
